The city of Flensburg issued a public Call for Proposals for the conceptual design of a memorial site commemorating the colonial ties of Flensburg. Deadline for step one is April 30th, 2026.

The city of Flensburg has been awarded €10,000 in prize money for its 'Flensburg 2030+' strategy in a nationwide competition for commitment to development. Flensburg's aim to deal with its colonial heritage was also mentioned in the award announcement.

The outcome of the Flensburg 2030+ process has been published. The development of a concept for dealing with colonial history is also mentioned as a measure.

In May 2022, Flensburg's cultural committee unanimously passed a resolution to come to terms with Flensburg's colonial past. Among other things, the resolution calls on the administration to create a memorial to colonialism.

In February 2022, the state parliament adopted a recommended resolution for a "concept for coming to terms with the country's colonial history".

In June 2021, the Cabinet adopted the State Action Plan against Racism, as provided for in the coalition agreement. The action plan also mentions coming to terms with colonialism as an important measure.
