Recommendation of a resolution to the federal state parliament for a “concept for dealing with the federal state’s colonial history”

In January 2022, the education committee of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament drafted a recommendation for a resolution to the state parliament for a “concept for coming to terms with the federal state’s colonial history”, at the request of the Südschleswigscher Wählerverband (SSW). It calls on the federal state parliament to adopt a “concept for coming to terms with the state’s colonial history”, including the creation of a memorial concept and a reappraisal of colonial trade and economic relations and their consequences.

All parties except the AfD in Schleswig-Holstein voted in favour of this recommended resolution (see agenda item 37 in document 19/3663). The recommended resolution was preceded by an important question from SSW members on the reappraisal of European and German colonial history in Schleswig-Holstein and a response from the state government.
