“Flensburg 2030+” wins 10,000 euros – the jury also mentions the engagement with colonial heritage

The city of Flensburg has been awarded 10,000 euros in prize money for its urban development strategy Flensburg 2030+ in the nationwide competition “Kommune bewegt Welt”. The competition is organised by the service agency Communities in One World (SKEW) and Engagement Global on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and recognises cities’ commitment to development. Flensburg’s aim to take a critical look at its colonial heritage is also mentioned in the award announcement. According to the announcement, this includes the creation of a monument to Flensburg’s colonial ties and a partnership with Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas.
