Call for artists: MEMORIAL on Flensburg’s Colonial Past

The city of Flensburg issued a public Call for Proposals for the conceptual design of a memorial site commemorating the colonial ties of Flensburg. Deadline for step one is April 30th, 2026.

Gallery of monuments to colonial history on the harbour promenade

Since 14 August 2025, 15 posters depicting monuments from European cities have been hanging on the construction fence at the harbour promenade in Flensburg to spark discussions about a monument to commemorate colonial history in Flensburg as well.

Der Autor liest aus seinem Buch über den Widerstand gegen die deutsche Kolonialherrschaft in Ostafrika, dessen Höhepunkt der "Maji-Maji-Krieg" (1905-1907) war. Zudem berichtet der Autor von seinen Erfahrungen und Begegnungen während der Recherche in Tansania. Fr. 3.
