Flensburg 2030+ strategy aims to come to terms with colonial history
In 2021, the city council of Flensburg decided to launch a process to develop a strategy for Flensburg 2030+. The desired outcome was a guiding document for the overall development of the city in the coming years. Over the course of two years, Flensburg’s citizens were able to participate in various formats. Another part of the process was a panel of experts to discuss suggestions and ideas. The process was completed in the summer of 2024 and the results were published: 7 fields of action, 33 strategic goals and 89 operational goals.
In the field of tangible and intangible assets, the strategic goal described as “In 2030, Flensburg will deal with its cultural, urban, linguistic and historical heritage in a future-oriented way” includes the measure to develop concepts for dealing with the colonial and Nazi history of the city of Flensburg.
